Mildred Polk Bolch Calhoun
September 10, 1916 - December 18, 2011
Savannah – Mildred Polk Bolch Calhoun died peacefully Sunday, December 18, 2011, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Born on September 10, 1916 in Islandton, SC, she considered Savannah her home as she had lived here for most of her life.
She retired in 1986 from Union Camp Corporation, after 41 years of service.
Mildred was a strong Christian who diligently served her church, St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was a member of the Altar Guild, served as a member of the Church Council, and was active with Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
Mildred's Life was characterized by love and service to others. She was recognized for her many years of volunteerism with the Savannah Association for the Blind.
Mildred was devoted wife to Sidney Jefferson Bolch, Jr., and to Charles Kretzer Calhoun, Sr., both of Savannah, who preceded her in death.
She is survived by her daughter, Mildred Cynthia Cindy Calhoun, of Savannah and her three sons, Sidney Jefferson Bolch, III Ellen, also of Savannah, Charles Kretzer Calhoun, Jr. Juliana, and John Gary Calhoun of Columbia, SC; and a brother, John Godley of Blichton.
Mildred adored her eight grandchildren: Amanda Bolch Jones Kirkpatrick; Sidney Jefferson Bolch, IV Louise; Allison Calhoun Van Cleef David; Christopher Morgan Calhoun; Laura Ann Calhoun Jon McPhee; Meredith Repella Dulany Reed; Geoffrey Mark Repella Warren Bimblick; and Matthew James Repella.
Seven great grandchildren were the delight of her later years and brought her much joy: Anna Carson Bolch; Sidney Jefferson Bolch, V; Amanda Blair Jones; Mary McElveen Dulany; Franklin Reed Dulany, IV; Grace Meredith Repella; and Geoffrey Finn Repella.
Mildred's was a life well lived and she will be sorely missed. Her family would like to express their deepest appreciation to THA Group's Independent Life at Home staff and to the team at THA Group's Island Hospice. Our thank you to both the staff and the residents of River's Edge for their many acts of Kindness.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park.
